Eight persons tested positive for COVID-19 and four persons have, bringing the number of active cases to 82. The total number of confirmed cases is now 2,479.

PHILIPSBURG–St. Maarten recorded its 29th COVID-19 related death on Saturday, June
5. Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labour VSA Omar Ottley extended his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the victim who passed away.

He wished the family strength during their time of bereavement.

Eight persons tested positive for COVID-19 and four persons have, bringing the number of active cases to 82. The total number of confirmed cases is now 2,479.

Collective Prevention Services (CPS) is monitoring 77 persons in home isolation. Five patients are hospitalised at St. Maarten Medical Center. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 has increased to 29.

The number of persons recovered since the first case surfaced on St. Maarten has increased to 2,368. There are 113 persons in quarantine based on contact tracing investigations carried out by CPS.

The Ministry of VSA Airport Health Team in collaboration with Health Care Laboratory St. Maarten (HCLS) have tested 3,018 travellers arriving at the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA), while CPS tested 30,424 persons throughout the community. CPS said as the numbers continue to fluctuate, the department will continue to actively execute its contact tracing measures.

Ottley encourages everyone to register to be vaccinated. Walk-ins are accepted. Persons who are interested in getting vaccinated are asked to walk with a form of photo identification (ID) for registration.

“Collectively join the campaign, as we drive to achieve 85 per cent herd immunity,” Ottely concluded.
