CC | Selikor: Waste incineration plant for energy production still on the table

HomeLandenCuraçaoCC | Selikor: Waste incineration plant for energy production still on the...

WILLEMSTAD – Selikor still has plans to establish a waste incineration plant for energy production. The waste management company has confirmed that the idea is not off the table.

However, Selikor wants to ensure that this plan is feasible before proceeding further. The concept emerged during a presentation by the company EcoVision, which conducted research on the annual waste disposal in Curaçao.

Selikor aims to transition to a more circular and sustainable waste management system. Currently, a significant amount of waste ends up in the landfill, resulting in the loss of valuable materials such as metal, cardboard, paper, plastic, and glass. Selikor has been working on a future plan for the landfill and specifically on waste management in Curaçao for over twenty years. Since 2002, the possibility of converting waste into energy has been explored, in close collaboration with Aqualectra.
