WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao is set to strengthen its collaboration with Dutch municipalities. Minister of Administration, Planning, and Public Service (BPD) Ornelia ‘Kid’ Martina signed a collaboration agreement last week with the director of the Association of Dutch Municipalities (VNG).
Although Curaçao has been a member of the VNG for 13 years, there has never been full membership. The signing of the covenant signifies a renewed commitment to deepen cooperation and leverage its benefits.
The collaboration primarily focuses on optimizing Curaçao’s civil service, emphasizing advancements in knowledge, expertise, and support. Additionally, the BPD ministry aims for better alignment with lobbying efforts and other interests of the VNG in both the Netherlands and Europe. The collaboration also promises outcomes in terms of training and exchange programs between employees of Curaçao’s ministries and Dutch municipalities.
Through this collaboration, the VNG and the BPD ministry hope to foster greater understanding between the two countries, with a focus on themes such as emancipation, education, poverty reduction, and sustainability.
Martina expressed satisfaction with the collaboration and hopes it proves beneficial for Curaçao.
