Vandaag laten we Roberto ‘Betto’ Flores aan het woord.

After the establishment of C.I.P.M., read Shell, in 1918 on Curacao the projected investment of the Chinese State-Owned, Guangdong Zhenrong Energy (GZE), is the largest socio-economic event (of the past 100 years) on the island.

We have to be very aware that we are dealing with Chinese State Company and not a private entrepreneur, from the West, that normally demands a State Guarantee. To the contrary GZE releases a bank gu- arantee. This pledge is issued in September 2017.

All counter-arguments, criticism, comments, et ce- tera, that are used against the said investment is not relevant to the type of business, financial size, spatial] logistical organization, guaranteed, multidisciplinary approach and, above all, general socio-economic importance of the projected investment.

We are talking about a minimum amount of 5 billion dollar. It will be very wise that both, local and foreign companies, to join with examining GZE. Other countries in the region are mouthwatering and are lurking to the listed investment with open arms, a heavy dose of positivity and optimism.

Only someone who is ignorant, narrow minded, and or seeking his own individual interest can be against the socio-economic development, of this size. We must not waste time with negative discussions and inefficiency. Let’s be proactive and dynamic with a positive attitude for the general wellbeing of our country and say a very warm full welcome to the above mention projected investment.

Are we looking forward to a new social-economic and most probably also another unprecedented political and cultural order? Will Curacao be, between the next 5 to 10 years, the Singapore of the Caribbean?

Roberto ‘Betto’ Flores,
Curacao

  1. Singapore , 5 miljoen mensen op een klein eiland. Uitsluitend staanplaatsen en hoogbouw. 20 Jaar dezelfde regering. Strenge wetten daardoor.
Woont er hier iemand die dat zou willen?

  2. The visionary that made Singapore great was Lee Kuan Yew. See also Lee Kuan Yew: The Grand Master’s Insights on China, the United States, and the World by Graham Allison, Robert D. Blackwill and Ali Wyne, 2013.

Quote of Lee Kuan Yew; “Look at the construction industries in India and China, and you will know the difference between one that gets things done and another that does not get things done, but talks about things…” — a statement that may also be applicable to Curaçao.

  3. Why did Singapore become successful?
    – Hard Work
    – Honest Government
    – No corruption
    – Free trade
    – Very few non-tariff barriers
    – Low taxes
    – Liberal immigration policies
    – Few capital restrictions
    – Government provided healthcare and social housing

  4. Singapore? Haha. Daar komen nog toeristen, hier straks niet meer. Het zal hier meer en meer op Haiti gaan lijken. Oorzaak? Een totaal gebrek aan visie.

  5. Curaçao will never be the next Singapore. We want prosperity and Curaçao offers certain opportunities, but our decision-makers lack of vision. They will sell at any price for a quick win. With the current political generation we need to be happy with a slight economic growth. Only if the Chinese will take over the whole social-economic sector with decision-making power we can be exploited to a temporary welfare, until we are of no use anymore. Just like the Shell did.

  6. Het is niet te hopen dat Curacao een Singapore wordt: het is daar bijzonder slecht gesteld met de mensenrechten en met de rechten van de arbeider!
