MARIGOT–Regional Health Agency Director-General Valérie Denux declared Saturday’s vaccination drive at the Conseil de Quartier in French Quarter a success with 82 persons turning up to receive a first dose of the Moderna vaccine.

The operation was set up in the Conseil de Quartier, adjacent to Thelbert Carti Stadium, from 8:00am to 5:00pm as a trial run. The fact that no appointment was necessary, no age requirement, and that a different vaccine was on offer, appeared to attract a lot of people, particularly from French Quarter, Orient Bay, and Grand Case.

Those who were vaccinated on Saturday will need to receive their second booster injection on April 24.

In view of the success of Saturday’s operation, more centres will be opened in other districts. Denux said the vaccination roll-out is now being accelerated in St. Martin.

The objective is to begin vaccinating the entire population at the beginning of May. The vaccines currently on offer on the French side are the Pfizer, Moderna, and Astra Zeneca vaccines, the latter reserved for those over 55 years of age.
