Nature Foundation and volunteers from the cruise operator sector cleaned up a large portion of Great Bay Beach this week.
The beach is a critical nature area in terms of sea turtle nesting, and a major tourist beach. With the first cruise visitors post-Hurricane Irma set to arrive in December, the Foundation said Great Bay Beach had been put on the priority list for clean-up.
Unemployed youngsters were also drafted by the Foundation for the clean-ups. They are compensated with a stipend supported by funding from the Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance.
