BOSTON–St. Maarten’s highest vote-getter suspended Member of Parliament (MP) Theo Heyliger will soon have to learn to live without part of one of his kidneys.
Heyliger is set to go under the surgeon’s knife at the Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital in Boston tomorrow, Friday, at 2:00pm. The operating doctor has decided to partially remove his one of his kidneys to completely extract the entire cancerous tumor. This was a result of a battery of tests prior to the surgery decision.
The surgery will entail some five incisions into his abdominal cavity. The procedure will take some four hours. Heyliger will need six or more weeks to recovery.
Heyliger is in Boston with his wife Grisha Heyliger-Marten.
Heyliger was arrested on February 19 on charges levied by the prosecutor’s office and was suspended from Parliament due to these accusations. He was released in almost four months later and is awaiting trial on corruption and money laundering charges.
