WILLEMSTAD – On Monday September 28th at approximately 04:20AM a shooting incident occurred where suspects seriously wounded a CAP Airport Police while he was in the process of conducting a routine patrol of the airport premises.

The victim was immediately transported to the hospital where his injuries are being treated.  We are informed that he is in serious but stable condition.  CAP contacted the Police Officials and investigators who are currently investigating the case.

CAP is resolved to try to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and to cooperate with authorities to successfully conclude the investigation. Slachtofferhulp and ARBO have also been contacted to offer support to CAP employees as well as members of the airport community that were present during the incident.

Our CAP Airport Police force perform that critical job of keeping our airport premises and passengers safe during the time they are  conducting their activities at the airport, and they do an excellent job in that regard on a daily basis. Curaçao International Airport is a public area open on a 24/7 basis to facilitate the movement and convenience of our passengers and other users. Our airport complies with all international norms for safely operating and managing an airport facility, a responsibility that our management and staff take very seriously.

However, CAP also recognizes that as a large and very active public facility, elements of society who want to do harm unfortunately also have certain access to the premises.

CAP will continue to do everything in its power to understand and address the issues that have contributed to this callous, cowardly and needless act of violence, andresolvesto learn from it and raise awareness regarding these potential situations in order to avoid, to the extent possible, such incidents from again occurring.
