WILLEMSTAD – On Wednesday, local employees of the Consulate of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Curacao, expressed their dissatisfaction through an open letter sent to the spanish news site Noticias Curazao.
In the letter, the employees expressed their displeasure by not receiving answers either from the Consul General or from the Venezuelan chancellery regarding the payment of their salaries. After five months without receiving any remuneration, these workers claim to be in a very precarious situation, unable to meet their regular commitments. Some of them are at risk of losing their homes, because they cannot keep up with their mortgages.
Likewise, the employees denied that the consulate is functioning “normally”, as the Consul had announced weeks before. “At the time of that announcement there was not an active computer inside the headquarters, much less the internet or management systems,” the letter says.
The workers regretted being subjected to insults and unfair accusations for not optimally providing the services for which they were hired.
Finally, the employees expressed their full will to work, indicating while due to the exposed situation, they find it impossible to fulfill their duties.
It is important to emphasize that, in principle, the local employees of the consulate – at least, at the moment of exercising their functions – must not and are not obliged to respond to any political affiliation.
