WILLEMSTAD – The Member of the Dutch Parliament for the Socialist Party (SP), Ronald van Raak is getting even more concerned about security in Curacao now that it appears that the dismissal of the former head of the Intelligence Service (VDC), Edsel Gumbs was unlawful. He wants to know what this says about the current head of the VDC.

The Dutch MP asked the Dutch Minister of Kingdom Relations, Ronald Plaster what his view is on the functioning of the current head of the VDC, which was appointed by the then Prime Minister of Curacao Gerrit Schott. Van Raak also asks if it is true that the current head was appointed in spite of a negative assessment and screening.

The member of the Socialist Party also wants to know how information from the VDC has been leaked, stolen or shared. Van Raak also asked about the rumors that off-duty VDC employees had bags full with information, including from the Dutch Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD).

“In what way is the AIVD currently working with the VDC and do they take into account that information can be or has been passed on to third parties against the wishes of the AIVD?”

Van Raak is also concerned that the information might be used by people who were investigated by the VDC or other secret services and that there is a danger for the informants.

For this reason, he asks for a further investigation into the leaking or sharing of information and the role of the current head of the VDC herein.
