WILLEMSTAD – The government is planning on making changes in minimum wages and also allowing stores to open one Sunday of the month. This is according to the leader of the ruling party Pueblo Soberano (PS), Jaime Cordoba.

The leader indicated that changes in minimum wages are in an advanced stage and that it will happen soon.

First the PS leader questioned the fact that fathers and mothers have to work on Sundays. “They don’t have the chance to be at home to eat together as was the case years ago. This is because business owners have decided that their employees need to work 24/7. If the working mother wants to take a day off they will get as answer that they can take the rest of their lives off,” said Cordoba during a recent party meeting.

According to Cordoba, the government must take measures against this. One of the most important priorities for this government, which is also mentioned in the coalition agreement, is the family.

This is the reason why from now on the government will say to the business owners that they can stay open on one Sunday of the month. The other Sundays, the employees will be at home with their families.

The party has also started with the process to change the minimum wage. Cordoba already spoke with Minister of Labor Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia on this topic. “Everything is ready for us to make an official announcement this week,” said Cordoba.
