CC | Progress in Boechi murder case moves closer with Zimmerman’s statement

HomeLandenCuraçaoCC | Progress in Boechi murder case moves closer with Zimmerman's statement

WILLEMSTAD – The resolution of the murder of Boechi Windster may partly hinge on the statement of suspect Christopher Zimmerman (24).

He had remained silent until the initial pre-trial hearing but was provoked into speaking during the case preparation session by co-defendant Churendy Coffie (44).

Both pointed fingers at each other in an emotional pre-trial hearing on Friday morning. According to Churendy, Chris fired out of nowhere after they had driven past the rapper three times earlier.

Reacting strongly, Zimmerman, who is considered the shooter, defended himself. There was a mastermind who wanted Boechi dead, and friend Coffie was well aware of who had paid for it. Zimmerman claimed that Coffie wanted to erase all evidence and make the murder look like a robbery, but there was actually a plan because there were people who wanted Windster dead.

The prosecutor listened to these statements during the proceedings and then asked Zimmerman if he would be willing to give an official statement during an interrogation. He agreed to do so.

Full Story

Churendy is suspected of driving the getaway car. During the case preparation session, his lawyer requested his client’s release, as he is fully cooperating with the investigation and has already provided all necessary statements. He has also voluntarily provided his DNA.

“I was not involved in the murder of Boechi,” declared Churendy. “I drove over Rooseveltweg three times to look at Boechi, but I did not shoot. You can check the cameras everywhere. I cooperated with the investigation because I did not kill anyone.”

During the hearing, it became evident that numerous camera recordings were made on the busy road that evening. The judge requested the public prosecutor’s office to create a compilation of these recordings for the substantive hearing in October.

More Arrests

It is not known whether Zimmerman has indeed decided to testify, but two more arrests occurred last month. In the early hours of Monday, July 17th, a search was conducted at an address on Kaya Aura Winkel in the Santa Helena district. During the search, a firearm, a box of bullets, and other items of interest to the investigation were seized.

Subsequently, a 44-year-old man, D.M.G., and a 38-year-old woman, J.C.R., both born in Curaçao, were arrested at the location. They were brought before a deputy public prosecutor who ordered their pre-trial detention pending further investigation.

Boechi’s wife, speaking via video link during the case preparation session, stated that the family will seek compensation, but details will only be revealed during the substantive hearing of the case on October 27th.
