
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police is reporting that detectives assigned to the Narcotics Division yesterday seized just under 30 pounds of cocaine valued more thab J$15 million at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA).
The discovery was made during security checks of cargo that arrived in the island from Curacao yesterday.
Reports are that about 12:30 pm, anomalies were discovered during an examination of several boxes declared as containing handbags, backpacks and household items, inclusive of electronics.
Further checks revealed that the lining of several of the knapsacks had compartments which contained the illicit drug.
The police say cocaine weighing approximately 28 pounds, with an estimated street value of US$ 123,500 or $15,561,000 was seized.
One person, whose gender and name was withheld, was taken into custody for questioning in relation to the seizure.
