WILLEMSTAD–Dust particles from sand storms in Africa’s Sahara desert have blanketed sections of the Caribbean including the ABC-islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao).

Each year this dust passes through the region, usually in the spring and summer months, reported the Meteorological Department of Curaçao. They indicated that the current dust cloud is significant.

“It’s basically a high pressure system across the Atlantic and all levels of the atmosphere that bring the dust in.”

The dust, which comes from the desert, causes skies in the area to be hazy, which reduces visibility and results in poor air quality.
