THE HAGUE–Dutch State Secretary of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops will arrive in St. Maarten on Monday, September 3, for a one-day visit.

In St. Maarten, Knops will have meetings with local authorities regarding the progress of the island’s recovery after Hurricane Irma. The Dutch government has reserved US $580 million for the St. Maarten Recovery and Resilience Trust Fund, which is managed by the World Bank.

Knops will be in St. Eustatius on Tuesday, September 4, for a meeting with Government Commissioner Mike Franco and Deputy Government Commissioner Mervyn Stegers. St. Eustatius has been under direct Dutch supervision since cFebruary.

Knops and his delegation will travel to Bonaire late Tuesday, where he will remain until Thursday, September 6. In Bonaire, he will meet with members of Saba’s Island Council and Saba Island Governor Jonathan Johnson on Wednesday, September 5. The Saba delegation will be in Bonaire on the occasion of the island’s national day, Dia di Boneiru.

On his arrival in Bonaire on Tuesday, Knops will meet with Bonaire Island Governor Edison Reina, the commissioners and Island Council. The intention is to set a number of policy priorities, areas that Bonaire will be working on to, among other things, improve governance and the functioning of the local administration.

The state secretary will attend part of the festivities of Dia di Boneiru on Thursday before returning to the Netherlands.
