Ground swells hinder motor yacht salvage | Daily Herald

SABA–A ground swell on Thursday morning hindered salvage operations of the motor yacht Elsa, which ran aground at Ladder Bay on March 22.

Anticipating ocean conditions to worsen over the following days, the salvage company Resolve spent Thursday preparing the vessel for the increasing swell. Due to the deteriorating ocean conditions, activity surrounding salvage operations will temporarily slow down, Saba Government Information Service (SGIS) reported on Saturday.

The vessel and ocean conditions were being monitored from Friday and continued to be monitored throughout the weekend. As soon as conditions permit, the situation will be reassessed and operations will resume at full capacity.

An update on the salvage operations will be given after an assessment and resulting plan has been made, according to SGIS.

Elsa is a 48-metre luxury motor yacht built in 2004. With a beam of 8.2 metres and a draft of 2.8 metres, she has a steel hull and steel/aluminium superstructure. This adds up to a gross tonnage of 353 tons. The motor yacht can accommodate 10 guests in five cabins.
