WILLEMSTAD – The relations between the Chinese State Company Guangdong Zhenrong and the government of Curaçao are taking shape step by step. Representatives of this company have met with the Prime Minister of Curaçao Hensley Koeiman.
The Prime Minister stated that it was just a presentation from the Chinese group. Koeiman did say that he was impressed with the intentions of the Chinese company here in Curaçao. “If this project continues it will create a great number of jobs for our people. They will also have the opportunity to receive education and a better future,” said the Prime Minister.
This presentation was necessary, especially noting that after the elections the winning party MAN appealed to the then Prime Minister Dr Bernhard Whiteman to put the negotiations on the future of the oil refinery on hold. MAN did this to give the new government the opportunity to receive information to continue with these negotiations.
Guangdong Zhenrong signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Curaçao for the operation of the oil refinery. The contract with the Venezuelan State Oil Company PdVSA will expire in 2019 and the intention is to continue with the Chinese company.
