WILLEMSTAD – Yesterday after 7 days behind bars, the Member of Parliament for MFK, Jacintha Constancia was released by the order of the Public Prosecution, specifically the Prosecutor in charge of the investigation.
During those 7 days, the Crime Investigation Unit has heard several witnesses and they investigated the images of the recording in parliament. The Prosecutor’s office indicated that they still have to do more investigation.
When Constancia was release she immediately received a court summons for June 21. The summons mentions her assault on her colleague Giselle McWilliam and also her threats towards another colleague Elza Rozendal, both Members of Parliament for the MAN party.
Constancia, while returning to her seat, touched McWilliam on the shoulder. When McWilliam turned around, Jacintha then proceeded to slap her in the face. This caused McWilliam to bleed from the nose. McWilliam had to go to a doctor for treatment.
Minutes after the incident Constancia was arrested and the authorities started an investigation. The investigation took some time because there were indications that the whole incident was planned. One question that had to be answered was why exactly at that moment the camera was focusing on Giselle McWilliam while Gassan Dannawi who at that moment was giving his dissertation was sitting on the other side of the hall.
