Zeker tien op Aruba geregistreerde vliegtuigen zijn eigendom van Roman Abramovitsj, Viktor Vekselberg en andere Russische oligarchen tegen wie internationale sancties zijn afgekondigd, bevestigt de Arubaanse transportminister Ursell Arends.
De vliegtuigen zijn opgenomen in het luchtvaartregister van zijn land, zei Arends tegen Arubaanse media. Aruba zit qua internationale sancties op dezelfde lijn als Nederland en de Europese Unie, maar onderneemt volgens de minister vooralsnog geen actie tegen de Russische vliegtuigeigenaren.
De sancties zijn opgelegd om Rusland en rijke zakenlieden rond president Poetin te straffen voor de oorlog in Oekraïne. Aruba zal maatregelen nemen tegen de Russische eigenaren “als dat nodig mocht zijn”, aldus de miniser.
In het luchtvaartregister, een bron van inkomsten voor Aruba, staan meer vliegtuigen op naam van personen uit de voormalige Sovjet-Unie. Volgens Arubaanse media heeft Abramovitsj een Boeing 787 Dreamliner en een Boeing 767 Extended Range ingeschreven en Vekselberg een Airbus A319-100 ACJ.

Aruba is not party to the conflict. Aruba also hasn’t taken sides when US, GB, etc were bombing Iraq, Syria etc. Very consistant. There interest comes first.
