WILLEMSTAD – The tenth anniversary of the Curaçao pride will take place in September. For almost a week there are parties, gatherings, seminars and educational sessions on the island.

According to the pride coordinator Frank Holtslag, it will be a busy week with a lot of organizing. “Of course, we have the official opening on Wilhelminaplein with a walk over the pontoon bridge beforehand, but we will also go boating and there will be movie nights,” Holtslag told the Dutch news site NU.cw.

The last time the pride in Curaçao could be celebrated exuberantly was in 2019. According to Holtslag, then it was a great success. “Thousands of people came, many from abroad.” In 2020, the coronavirus broke out, putting pride on the back burner. “We have celebrated it every year, but it had to be small-scale. We had to stick to the rules then,” says the coordinator.

The official pride program is expected to come next week. “We are going to make something beautiful out of it,” says Holtslag.

The pride takes place from September 28 to October 2.
