WILLEMSTAD – Last night former Major Leaguer Andruw Jones presented, during the broadcast of RTL Late Night in the Netherlands, the artist renderings of the new baseball stadium that he wants to build on Curaçao. “We want to ensure that children can pursue their dream,” announced the greatest ballplayer of Curaçao in the broadcast.
Andruw Jones ended last February his playing career after being inducted by the Atlanta Braves in the Hall of Fame of the club. The Major League organization had brought Jones to Florida moments before as a guest instructor at the last Spring Training.
That worked out well, then the Atlanta Braves offered the baseball player from Curaçao a role as a special assistant to
the organization during the season. But in addition to his new role at the club where Jones received his greatest successes, the tenfold Gold Glove winner wants to also be committed to the youth. One of his plans is the renovation of the Little League stadium in Muizenberg, currently a dilapidated baseball field.
During the broadcast of RTL Late Night Jones presented shortly his plans for the facelift of the stadium. “There are not many facilities in Curaçao. We do not have any stadium. We do have baseball fields, but they are not in good condition,” said Jones. The new stadium should bring change into that. Jones: “My goal now is to help other players and give them a chance to follow their dreams and be successful, just like me.”
For this, Jones puts funds available from his foundation ARBJ-Foundation. With the investment of two million dollars there will be in Muizenberg a new stadium for the young baseball players in Curaçao. “We have the property and all the drawings,” Jones announced. “We want to ensure that children can pursue their dream and play at a good level. We want to give them the opportunity to develop and to be able to finally go to the United States to represent the island and the Dutch Kingdom.”
The stadium will have a capacity of approximately two thousand spectators. Last year former Prime Minister Ivar Asjes and the Minister of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning signed the documents with the ARBJ-Foundation for the desired renovation. The parties had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding. In February this year the construction was started symbolically.

Heeft te maken met de gulzige partijen (politici) die toen aan de macht waren?
Jones heeft al eerder een poging gedaan om een voor Curacao zo goed als gratis stadion te bouwen. Dit plan heeft hij toen weer ingetrokken omdat men het hier weer zoals gewoonlijk tot een politiek item maakte en dan kom je uit bij de gebruikelijke zaken zoals; welk terrein, wie heeft zeggenschap enz enz ( lees; wie gaat er wat en hoeveel aan overhouden). Jones was het gekonkel op een gegeven moment zat en zei dat als het zo moest, dat zijn aanbod van tafel was. Eens kijken hoe ver het nu komt en wat voor drama er mogelijk nu van gemaakt wordt. Kunnen beslissen is in de cultuur alhier niet de sterkste eigenschap. Persoonlijke voordelen zien wel en daar zit hem vaak het venijn.
Waarom moet men Andrew Jones zo afkraken? Deze man wordt in Nederland wel op handen gedragen. De man wil met EIGEN GELD een honkbal stadion bouwen op zijn eiland, het is ook nooit goed. Wat een gezeik, sorry…
Wat hebben mensen die klagen ooit gratis voor Curaçao gedaan?

Ans was een groot reaguurder, maar stelde verder helemaal niets voor, haar leven is verder volstrekt ongemerkt voorbij getrokken.
AJ was een groot sportman, maar heeft zich daarbuiten schandalig gedragen met openbare dronkenschap, mishandeling van vrouwen, en pathetisch gedrag in hoerententen waarvoor hij regelmatig met justitie in aanraking is gekomen.
Om daar nu een stadion naar te noemen? Allesbehalve een voorbeeld voor onze jeugd.
Maar de lokatie, de beruchte wijk Muizenberg, is wel passend. Zet een hek om deze wijk en je hebt een tweede Bon Futuro.
