Vandaag laten we Marc Verkade aan het woord

Het blijkt erg lastig te zijn om mensen duidelijk te maken dat er mensen bestaan, zonder belangen, die zich inzetten voor de gezondheid van zichzelf en anderen.

Aangezien we (Clean AIr Everywhere) al voor van alles en nog wat zijn uitgemaakt, wil ik toch graag herhalen wat we al die tijd al aangeven: We zijn geen grondspeculanten en we willen de Isla niet sluiten en krijgen geen geld vanuit de lopende beslaglegging! Het gaat ons om de gezondheid van mensen en niet om geld!

Ikzelf woon niet in een resort en ik heb ook geen last van de Isla/Boo behalve wanneer ik ‘s-ochtends naar kantoor rij om te werken en ik door de stank heen moet rijden. Ook wij moeten gewoon werken voor ons geld.

Wij willen enkel schone lucht voor ons, onze kinderen en voor iedereen onder de rook van de Isla/Boo. Het mag niet zo zijn dat er ten koste van de gezondheid van de bevolking veel geld wordt verdient. Dat mag simpelweg niet, dat staat glashard in het verdrag van de rechten van de mens en dat is een wet die ook op Curaçao geldt. Als ik kinderen zie van 4 en 6 met astma, dan breekt mijn hart en wil ik daar wat aan doen!

De Isla/Boo kunnen overigens prima schoner produceren, We hebben alle rapporten die daarover geschreven zijn (7 stuks!) ondertussen gelezen, en het kost maar een fractie van de winst die gemaakt wordt. Maar ze produceren niet schoner omdat het geld/investeringen kost en niemand tegen ze zegt dat ze dat moeten doen. Zo werkt de economie nu eenmaal. Als het niet hoeft en het kost geld, dan gebeurd het niet!

We vragen daarom de overheid om de (soepele) regels te handhaven omdat de overheid dat al decennia lang niet doet, Maar dat doen ze niet om wat voor reden dan ook. Vandaar dat we naar de rechter zijn gestapt zodat hij de overheid dwingt om een paar dingen uit te voeren: Meet wat er in de lucht zit, onderzoek de groene stof die op de huizen zit en mensen inademen, onderzoek de gezondheid van de bevolking en, dat is belangrijk, informeer de bevolking en breng de feiten in plaats van de feiten te verdraaien of te verdoezelen… We baseren ons enkel op feiten en alle rapporten en informatie is beschikbaar via de website van SMOC en Clean Air Everywhere en we zijn bereid om met iedereen te praten/discussiëren die geïnteresseerd is.

Wanneer de Isla en BOO op gas gaan stoken zal de uitstoot aanzienlijk verminderen. We voorzien echter dat dit nog wel jaren zal duren voordat dit gerealiseerd is. En in de tussentijd mag en kan het niet zo zijn dat de Isla/Boo op deze wijze doorgaat met vergiftigen en er mensen dood gaan.

De PVDSA is een bedrijf en denkt in rendement en winst. Deze fabriek maakt, zoals ik vorige week in een presentatie van Economische zaken zag, een winst van 500.000.000 USD per jaar, dat is ongeveer 900 Miljoen NAF per jaar.. Ze zouden wel gek zijn om de Isla te sluiten…
Het zou ze wel sieren als ze bijvoorbeeld 5% van hun winst zouden investeren in de fabriek en schonere brandstof en daarmee de uitstoot sterk zouden reduceren… Want over dat bedrag praat je ongeveer… 5% van de winst… Zo simpel is het…
