WILLEMSTAD – After two years carnival will continue in 2023. Good news for the partygoers is that the route through Otrabanda, Willemstad has not changed. Also, this year the end point is in Otrobanda and the narrow streets in the old city center are also part of the major parade.

The latter did not seem certain after the government announced a change to the route last week. The reason is said to be the dilapidated state and danger of many buildings collapsing as a result of the high volume of the music from the carnival parade. The new hospital would also be hindered by the music on the street.

Various interest groups, such as work organizations and the association of musicians AGKK, expressed their dissatisfaction with the government’s decision. According to them, the hospital is perfectly insulated and noise is not a problem at all and that old buildings collapse due to loud music is by no means proven.

The government is now pulling back and Minister Cooper of Traffic and Transport confirms that the route will remain unchanged.
