WILLEMSTAD–As per November 30, the Maduro & Curiel’s Bank (MCB) accounts of various lotteries in Curaçao will close. The bank considers the current risk too great to continue doing business with them.

It’s all about a global cracking down on proceeds from dubious origins, tax evasion and money laundering.

Lottery license holders have apparently not yet succeeded in finding another bank. According to Robbie’s Lottery, almost 200 jobs are at stake with the decision of MCB and its St. Maarten-based subsidiary Windward Islands Bank (WIB).

This is said to be a big blow for the lottery business on both islands. No other bank has reportedly offered to open accounts for these companies.
