Caribbean mobile operator announces acquisition of Tres Networks, pending government approval.
Digicel on Thursday announced it has acquired Curacao-based Tres Networks for an undisclosed sum.
The Caribbean-focused telco said that, on receipt of government approval for the deal, it will own 100% of Tres Networks.
Digicel already offers mobile services in Curacao. Buying Tres Networks enables it to add fixed and international long distance services to its portfolio, as well as high-speed Internet and TV. Tres Networks connects business and residential customers via its fibre infrastructure.
“This will mean increased investment in even better services and new technologies in Curacao in the near future,” said Digicel group CEO Colm Delves, in a statement.
Digicel did not detail how the deal would be structured, but said it will work with Tres Networks’ existing management team “to bring enhanced services to customers in Curacao.”
“Tres is pleased to have come to an agreement with Digicel – a company with a strong brand – that will not only bring a high level of expertise to the operations of Tres, but will also bring considerable market power that will enable Tres to quickly expand its network reach on the island, enhance its services and above all, reach its considerable potential,” said Frank de Frémery, CEO of Tres Networks.
