PHILIPSBURG:— The judge of instruction confirmed on Friday that senior customs officer Nestor Sanchez was arrested in accordance with the law and he will remain in police detention for the next ten days which ends either on Thursday or Friday.
Chief Prosecutor Hans Wesslink said some 270 kilos of cocaine was found on Insel Air on Thursday when police and customs searched the aircraft when it landed at the Princess Juliana International Airport.
Wesslink said that in the first press statement made by police on Thursday night they indicated that drugs was also found at the home of the senior customs officer but that was not true.
Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson made that rectification on Friday stating that the latter part of the information he released late Thursday night was incorrect.
Nestor Sanchez is a well-known customs officer who was holding a senior position and was stationed at the Princess Juliana International Airport.
