Vandaag laten we Janchi Beaujon aan het woord
The CubanJosé R. Capablanca (1888-1942) was a world famous chess master. At the age of 12 he was already champion of his island. Subsequently he was able to win numerous international championships.
The story goes that one time a stranger challenged Capablanca to a game. Perhaps out of boredom he accepted, thinking he would easily beat this unknown man. But the man proved to be a very tough opponent. In fact, at a certain moment he was about to win.
Capablanca asked him what his name was and why he had never heard of him. The stranger replied: “I am the devil.” Capablanca did not believe him of course.
“If you are the devil, touch your king and turn it into solid gold.”
The stranger said: “No problem”, and touched his king, turning it into gold.
Capablanca chuckled and said: “You touched your king and now that’s what you have to play.”
This caused the stranger to lose.
