It was once swimming pigs in the Bahamas, but now flamingos in Aruba are trending.
Well, for the residents of an exclusive Caribbean resort anyway. Holiday-goers staying at Renaissance Aruba Resort on Renaissance Island are enjoying selfies with a few feathered friends and receiving optimal Instagram validation for it.
The unexpected Instagram stars reside at Flamingo Beach on the private island, which can only be accessed by residents of the resort (or tourists buying day passes when the hotel isn’t booked out).
Flamingos – who stand on one leg to conserve body heat – are usually timid, but these birds have clearly adapted to island life and have little problem with tourists flocking to them with iphones in hand.
Travellers haven’t hesitated sharing their snaps, with one travel blogger Anna Everywhere sharing her selfies alongside some advice for enthusiastic tourists and flamingo lovers.
“If you’re heading to #Aruba and want to see these cuties, remember that they live on a private island of @renaruba. Non-guests can buy day passes, but ONLY if the hotel isn’t fully booked. So you can’t buy these passes in advance,” the blogger wrote.
“When I was there my friends couldn’t see the flamingos because they were staying elsewhere. So I recommend booking this hotel to avoid disappointments.”
Accommodation starts at US$170 per night, so at those prices travellers better get in quick. But if the swimming pig trend was anything to go by, there may be no rush as you can expect to see flamingo selfies sticking for a while.
