WILLEMSTAD – This week will be the departure of both the President of the Committee for Financial Supervision (CFT), Prof. Dr. Agge Bakker and the member representing Curaçao, Alberto Romero.
Bakker and Romero will say goodbye to all the Dutch Caribbean islands during a final official visit. Bakker has already a replacement but it is not sure what will happen with Romero’s vacant position.
There are many who believe that the former Minister of Finance, Dr. Jose Jardim could be a suitable replacement for Romero but now that he has returned as Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance he will not be able to join the CFT.
It is still not know how the government of Curaçao will deal with this situation. One of the requirements is for the candidate to be a non-politician. He or she must also be knowledgeable in the aspects of the government of the island.
The committee was formed in 2010 with the task to monitor the financial developments on all the Dutch Caribbean islands.
